Sonic the Hedgehog 3 kicks off right after the events of Sonic 2, where Sonic has settled into his role as Earth’s protector. However, a new threat emerges as Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) returns, more dangerous than ever. This time, he has uncovered an ancient artifact known as the Chaos Emerald of Time, which gives him control over time and space, allowing him to manipulate reality.
Meanwhile, Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) continues his adventure alongside Tails and Knuckles, who are now permanent fixtures in his team. Their mission is to prevent Robotnik from assembling all the Chaos Emeralds, which would grant him unlimited power and the ability to rewrite history. In this installment, the stakes are much higher as the villain sets his sights on using the Emeralds to create a world ruled by his machines.
The twist comes when Keanu Reeves’s character is introduced as Shadow the Hedgehog, a mysterious anti-hero created in a secret experiment, who has his own agenda regarding the Chaos Emeralds. Shadow and Sonic initially clash, as Shadow’s motives are unclear. He believes in a darker vision for the world, which puts him at odds with Sonic’s optimistic outlook.
As Sonic and Shadow engage in high-speed, intense battles across different dimensions created by the Chaos Emerald, they eventually discover they must join forces to stop Robotnik from tearing apart the fabric of reality itself.
The climax involves an epic showdown between Sonic, Shadow, and Robotnik, with Sonic unlocking new abilities and the team learning the true meaning of heroism and sacrifice. The movie leaves a few loose threads, hinting at even more challenges ahead in the Sonic universe, especially with Shadow’s mysterious backstory yet to be fully revealed.
